“Spiritual disciplines” are things we do to stay in love with God and grow in faith.  They can be things we do alone or together; they can be ways to spend time with God or to serve others.  As the people of Sylva First UMC share one of their spiritual disciplines with you each week, we hope it will inspire you to new ways of loving God and growing in faith.

Morning to all! My name is John Clodfelter. I am from Charlotte, North Carolina. I moved to the Sylva community almost two years ago with my work at the American Red Cross.

I attended a awesome church in Charlotte and I am still a member but have been looking for a new worship home here in the area since my move. In my work God lead me to First United Methodist Church in Sylva, where I came across two awesome people.

I grew up in church and knew and loved the Lord. Asking God at a young age to come into my life and save me and teach me and lead me in his ways. I went to church, flipped thru the bible and soon found myself vacant. One day I ran into a friend as we talked he invited me to come sit in at his men’s Bible study group one evening. I soon started reading and studying the Bible on a regular basis. Thru this small group of men I found my passion in God’s word. I found Love! I found his Grace! I found my foundation.

I am apart of a awesome study group at First United Methodist in Sylva and would encourage you to find your foundation. God loves us all and will never leave us. Seek him and your foundation will never end. May you all be blessed!
