“Spiritual disciplines” are things we do to stay in love with God and grow in faith. They can be things we do alone or together; they can be ways to spend time with God or to serve others. As the people of Sylva First UMC share one of their spiritual disciplines with you each week, we hope it will inspire you to new ways of loving God and growing in faith.
Hi church family! We are the Monteith sisters. Mayleigh (10), Adeline (8) and Emmie (5). There are a few ways we try to stay connected to God that we want to share with you.
“Doing Acts of service makes me feel closer to God because it makes the other people feel good and then they might want to help others too. Some acts of service I can think of are things like packing lunches for others, packing gifts for kids who don’t have anything, giving money or collecting items for the homeless, and helping my little sisters. I think that when you do nice things for other people, they will want to do nice things too, and that is how God wants us to treat each other” – Mayleigh
“I talk to God when I’m feeling nervous about something. I’ll say like, “please don’t make me nervous and please help me feel better.” And I’ll say that a few times until I feel better. It makes me feel more connected to God because He makes me feel better.” -Adeline
“I like to say prayers about my friends and my family. I know God listens because He is so special to me.” -Emmie
As sisters we practice showing grace. Mrs. Jessica taught us that graces means caring more about each other than being right or winning. Sometimes it is hard to show grace to each other, but it is a good thing to practice. When we practice grace we are showing each other God’s love.
With love, Mayleigh, Adeline & Emmie
